National Fish Farmers Day Celebration by Division of Fisheries Science
The Division of Fisheries Science at The Neotia University celebrated ‘National Fish Farmers Day’ on July 11, 2024 at the University Campus. This significant day commemorates the pioneering work of Dr. Hiralal Choudhury and Dr K. H. Alikunhi, whose breakthroughs in the induced breeding of Indian major carps have revolutionized freshwater aquaculture in India. The event also signifies honour to fish farmers and others involved in aquaculture and fisheries activities. Prof H Shivananda Murthy, Chair Professor & Dean, introducing the significance of the National Fish Framers Day, welcome the guests and dignitaries. Dr. Debasis De (Principal Scientist and Head) ICAR-CIBA Kakdwap Research Centre participated as Chief Guest, Dr Manish, Registrar and Mr Suhas Mukherjee, Vice President of TNU attended the inaugural session. About 50 fish farmers; students and faculty members of the TNU participated in the program. In the Technical Session, lectures on different topics including ornamental fish rearing, disease management, economics of aquaculture and other areas were presented by the faculty of the Division.
